Selwood’s pump rental vehicle fleet has been upgraded with the addition of six new Daf CF trucks. The trucks are compliant with Euro-6 emissions regulations, reflecting our commitment to investing in our fleet and minimising the impact of our operations on the environment.

Delivery of the new vehicles – five 6x2 rear-steer 26-tonners and a four-axle 8x2 rear steer, supplied by Lancashire Daf in Preston – follows a similar earlier intake of Daf vehicles. It means 95% of our trucks now meet the tougher Euro-6 standard.

The vehicles include beavertail and flatbed bodywork from PPS Commercials and Bury, and three of the 26-tonne trucks are fitted with cranes supplied by Hiab.

Explaining the choice of trucks, Selwood’s head of transport, Paul Green said: “We’re seeing better productivity returns from the eight-wheelers. The higher carrying capacity coupled with excellent manoeuvrability mean the Daf set-up is ideal for our operation.

“Drivers are really enthusiastic too – the 370bhp engines on the 26-tinners represent a boost in power over our previous trucks, which they appreciate.”

At Selwood we are committed to minimising the impact that our operations have on the environment around us – and one way we can contribute to sustainability is through the increased use of lower-emission vehicles. In recent years we have made great strides to a more sustainable fleet.

In our total fleet of 320 cars, vans and HGV trucks, 17.5% are hybrid, PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, which can be charged from an external power source) or completely electric.

When it comes to cars, almost half – 46.7% – fall into this more environmentally-friendly category. Overall, 69.7% of the total Selwood fleet meets or exceeds the Euro 6 emissions standard, which is aimed at reducing levels of harmful gases including nitrous oxide and carbon monoxide as well as pollutants such as hydrocarbons.

Achieving a greener fleet is just one of the ways that Selwood is working to minimise the impact of our operations on the environment around us.

Innovations such as the introduction of our lower-emission S160Eco pump underline our relentless pursuit of more sustainable products, while we are proud to be one of the few companies in the UK to hold recognised standards in the three key areas of quality, safety and the environment.
