At Selwood we are committed to minimising the impact that our operations have on the environment around us – and one way we can contribute to sustainability is through the increased use of lower-emission vehicles.

Like most organisations in the industries we work in, we recognise that change is an ongoing process and that it will take time to get to where we want to be. However, in recent years we have made great strides to a more sustainable fleet.

In our total fleet of 320 cars, vans and HGV trucks, 17.5% are hybrid, PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, which can be charged from an external power source) or completely electric.

When it comes to cars, almost half – 46.7% – fall into this more environmentally-friendly category. Overall, 69.7% of the total Selwood fleet meet or exceeds the Euro 6 emissions standard, which is aimed at reducing levels of harmful gases including nitrous oxide and carbon monoxide as well as pollutants such as hydrocarbons.

These are figures that we are proud of, and we’re working hard to raise that bar, mostly by choosing greener alternatives when it is time to replace vehicles in the fleet.

With this in mind, we have projected that this shift towards greener vehicles will save up to 180 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year, and that our fossil fuel use will drop by up to 29% by 2023. That’s a figure that will make a huge difference to the world we live in.

Achieving a greener fleet is just one of the ways that Selwood is working to minimise the impact of our operations on the environment around us.

Innovations such as the introduction of our lower-emission S160Eco pump underline our relentless pursuit of more sustainable products, while we are proud to be one of the few companies in the UK to hold recognised standards in the three key areas of quality, safety and the environment.
