Young people who use a boxing club in Aberdeen have new kit thanks to sponsorship from pump rental specialist Selwood.

New tracksuits, t-shirts and re-usable water bottles have been supplied to Byron Boxing Club, based at the Northfield Community Centre, Byron Square, following a £1,000 donation from Selwood’s Aberdeen branch.

The sponsorship was secured by Alex Cain, Selwood’s regional account manager for pump rental, who is one of the co-founders of the club.

Alex said: “We are so proud of the young people we work with and everything the club has achieved We’re pleased to receive this recognition from Selwood, and to see our boxers in their smart new kit. We are also pleased to receive reusable water bottles from Selwood, helping us to play our part in reducing the use of single use plastics.”

Since it was founded in 2010, Byron Boxing Club has gone on to produce Scottish and British champions and members who have won medals in the Junior and Senior Commonwealth Games. Successes this year include four gold medals at the Scottish Open tournament.

The club’s team of coaches are dedicated to supporting its young users with fitness, discipline and a healthy lifestyle and the club been credited with helping to reduce anti-social behaviour in the area.

Alex added: “This donation means the team of coaches and volunteers here can continue to do what they do best – making a real difference in the community.”
