Selwood’s versatile team of pump solutions specialists in Scotland tamed the River Urr to enable a client to carry out an open cut excavation of the riverbed.

The client called upon Selwood’s expertise to ensure the excavation area was kept dry for the duration of the works.

This time-lapse video captures them setting up the solution, which involved 16 electrical submersible pumps and 44m of 800mm discharge pipework. The pumps were run in groups of four on variable speed drive units, with the speed of each set automatically adapting to the variable flow of the river, ensuring effective use of power, minimising costly fuel usage and thus reducing the carbon footprint of the project.

The client commented: “Selwood provide us with excellent service and this was typified in the high-quality pump solutions they provided for the River Urr project.”

Selwood is a leader in pumping solutions in Scotland, with branches in Glasgow and Edinburgh and a new branch in Aberdeen opened in 2017.
