The construction of the new Bordon and Oakhanger Sports Club Pavilion is being supported by Selwood

A pioneering project to build new sports facilities for one of the UK’s first ‘green’ towns is being developed by a local leading company, Mildren Construction, and supported with equipment from plant hire specialist Selwood.

The development of Bordon and Oakhanger Sports Club Pavilion will be one of the key facilities in the new Whitehill & Bordon development in Hampshire.

The £1bn multi-partner regeneration project will see 3,350 new homes and a range of new facilities built on the former Prince Philip Barracks over the next 15 years. The site, transforming the garrison town into a ‘green’ town, will be one of four such towns in the UK with an emphasis on sustainability.

Mildren Construction, one of Selwood Plant Hire’s largest and longest-established customers, was awarded the high-profile job of developing the new pavilion to accompany the Prince Phillip development.

The replacement building will provide a larger sports pavilion, improved tennis courts, boules courts and a bowling green, alongside reseeded sports pitches as well as a series of community spaces for functions of varying sizes.

The pavilion is being developed across two storeys to increase the versatility of the venue.

Mildren Construction, the principal contractor on the site, started work in August and most of the plant required will be supplied by Selwood over the course of the scheme.

In the two months since beginning the project, Selwood has supplied equipment from its extensive plant hire range, including a 14-tonne Hyundai 140 excavator, a dumper and telehandler.

Mildren Construction benefit from the proximity of technical experts at Selwood’s HQ in Eastleigh, Hampshire, one of the company’s comprehensive network of plant hire branches across England and Wales.

Jason Boxall, a plant hire specialist for Selwood, said: “We are delighted to be working at this prestigious site with one of our longest-established customers.

“A project with this level of kudos demands the highest quality at every stage and we are pleased to have been able to help solve the challenges for our customer.

“We are just at the start of this project and expect to be supplying plant to meet the specific needs of Mildren Construction until the scheme completes in May next year.

“We look forward to seeing the new sports facilities take shape for this new community.”
