Hampshire-based civil engineering contractor Oliver & Brown has invested in its continuing growth with a £150,000 purchase of construction equipment from Selwood’s plant hire and sales team.

Oliver & Brown, which has been established by the Oliver family for 30 years and has a long-standing relationship with plant hire experts at Selwood’s head office in Chandler’s Ford, has bought a Hyundai HX140 tracked excavator, two Thwaites six-tonne front tip dumpers and two Hamm HD12vv double drum rollers.

The purchase ensures that Oliver & Brown will own a portion of its plant requirement, and is the first part of a larger package that will see Selwood supply the company with more equipment over the coming year.

The sale was made by Selwood plant hire specialist John Knight, who has worked with Oliver & Brown and the Oliver family for several decades. The deal also includes a maintenance and servicing agreement which can be fulfilled at any of Selwood’s plant hire branches in England and Wales.

Directors Adam Oliver and Rob Brown (pictured, with John Knight of Selwood) visited Selwood’s head office to view the new equipment, which has been liveried with the Oliver & Brown logo, before it was delivered to various operational sites across the south.

Adam said: “As we continue to grow, it was time for us to invest in our own fleet of some of the most commonly-used plant. As we have a long relationship with Selwood, it made perfect sense to do this through John, who has worked with our family for many years.

“As well as being very competitive on price, we know that John and the Selwood team are friendly, easy to deal with and very proactive.”

Oliver & Brown, based in North Baddesley, near Southampton, specialises in groundworks and construction in the commercial, residential, education and defence sectors in the south. Its clients include Highwood Group, Neilcott, Raymond Brown, Kier, Bouyges, Morgan Sindall, and Balfour Beatty.

John Knight said: “It’s been a delight to work with and get to know the people behind Oliver & Brown over many years and to build such a strong partnership with them. As the company grows, this investment makes perfect sense, and in terms of total life cost of the plant, it’s really a self-financing purchase.

“We are proud to count Oliver & Brown as one of the many contractors we support with plant hire and sales, and look forward to doing so for many years to come.”

Selwood has an extensive fleet of plant available for hire or sale from its network of regional branches across England and Wales. Its teams pride themselves on an unrivalled depth of technical expertise, exceptional customer service and product knowledge.
